Choosing conveyor idlers requires a comprehensive assessment of the usage scenario, belt width, material weight, and environmental conditions to ensure stable operation, long service life, and cost reduction.
First, determine the idler roller specifications based on the belt width:φ89 idlers are commonly used for B500 and B650 belts;φ108 idlers are selected for B800 belts;andφ133 idlers are recommended for B1000 and wider belts. The wider the belt, the larger the idler roller diameter should be.
Second, select the type based on the material and operating conditions:For ordinary bulk materials and dry environments at normal temperature, steel idlers are chosen due to their high cost-effectiveness and load-bearing capacity;at the discharge port and locations with high impact from falling materials, buffer idlers must be installed to protect the belt from damage;in humid, acidic, alkaline,or corrosive environments,nylon/polymer idlers are preferred due to their corrosion resistance, rust resistance, and longer service life;in dusty environments where dust easily enters,multi-seal idlers should be selected to prevent bearing seizure and abnormal noise.
Next, consider the load-bearing capacity:For light materials such as grain and sawdust, use standard wall thickness idlers;for heavy materials such as coal and ore, select heavy-duty idlers with thickened pipe walls and reinforced bearings to prevent deformation and damage. The faster the belt speed, the higher the requirements for idler rotation accuracy and sealing;therefore,low-resistance,high-precision idlers should be selected to reduce energy consumption and belt wear.
Proper selection and standardized installation can effectively extend the overall lifespan of the idlers and conveyor, and improve conveying efficiency.
